The vehicle, a 2004 Honda Pilot with New Jersey license plate K47SSE, was stolen on Sunday, Jan. 7 from the 200 block of West 1st Street in Mount Vernon, the city's police department announced on Saturday, Jan. 20.
On the night of the theft, an unidentified suspect entered the vehicle while it was unattended and still running and drove away. The vehicle has not been seen since the theft and no license plate recognition systems have detected it, police said.
To make matters worse, a dog had been inside the vehicle when it was stolen and has not been found either. The department later released images of the Honda Pilot, its plates, and the dog, as well as surveillance video showing the suspect.
Anyone who sees the vehicle or has any information is asked to call Mount Vernon Police at 914-665-2500 or their local police agency if outside the city.
The department also issued a warning to residents: "Please do not leave your vehicle running with the keys in it. Criminals will use any opportunity to steal."
